Shambler
This is your everyday flesh eating infected. They move somewhat slow and possess no special abilities and limited intelligence. They are weak and easily knocked down, although killing one requires either shooting it in the head, torching it, or blowing it to pieces. Despite all these weaknesses, they are *extremely* dangerous in large groups. When a Shambler spots prey, it unleashes a loud moan which calls to the other infected in the vicinity.
Hunter
Possess a very high animal intelligence. They are capable of chasing and stalking prey over long distances, do not tire easily, and have none of the weaknesses of the lesser infected. They are fierce, and will close with prey quickly, often leaping long distances to do so. When injured, they still possess enough intelligence to flee and choose another avenue of attack. Putting one down for the count requires shooting it in the head, torching it, or blowing it to pieces.
Spitter
Spitters have severely impaired intellect, due to the nature of the chemical changes within their bodies. They have distended stomachs, which produce a very potent acid. Spitters douse their prey in this acid, close the distance in a leisurely manner and start eating. Occasionally, Spitters explode when attacked at close range. They have very poor regenerative capabilities, and most of the time when they die, they stay dead. It never hurts to be certain though.
Crawler
Crawlers are an unusual mutation. Instead of actively hunting their prey, they will seek instead to ambush it - often by dropping from the ceiling. Once on the ground, they are as ferocious as a Hunter but also fearless, meaning they will attack and never back down no matter what. Like the hunter, killing one means shooting it in the head, torching it, or blowing it to pieces.
Shocker
This mutation points to a purposeful hand behind the evolution of the infected. The Shocker acts as a living battery, and can project lightning at very long ranges. Shooting it in the head, torching it, or blowing it to pieces is difficult without a long range weapon to put it down with. Of all the infected, shockers are the slowest.
Burner
The Burner emits hard radiation when it comes within range of it's prey, making it extremely dangerous. Because of this, they are immune to radiation and heat, and the only way to kill one permanently is to destroy the brain or blow it to pieces.
Nameless
These infected are even more resilient than the others. After being "killed" enough times, they will stay dead, but they regenerate very quickly and are extremely tough to put down once, let alone several times. The only sure way to kill one is with explosives or fire. Besides this, they are faster and stronger than the normal infected.
Brute
Brutes are big and mean, and possess limited human intelligence. They are capable of manipulating basic tools, and big enough to pick up almost anything and either use it as a club or throw it long distances with some accuracy. In addition to all that, an increased skin, bone and muscle density makes it difficult to kill one with any conventional weapon.
Chimera
Chimeras are another rarity. While they possess no natural strengths, they have managed to retain a fair amount of their human intelligence. As such, they have been known to set up ambushes, create traps, and utilize relatively complicated human weapons. While they lack some agility and dexterity, which affects their accuracy, they are easily the most dangerous of the infected because it is difficult to predict their actions. They can be permanently killed by shooting it in the head, torching it, or blowing it to pieces.
Screamer
The screamer emits a high, piercing shriek that disorients all those in the vicinity, making them somewhat slower. It is thought that there is some sort of psychic component to the attack as well, as it retains it's effectiveness even in thin atmosphere. It can be permanently killed by shooting it in the head, torching it, or blowing it to pieces.
